C'mon! Let's Live A Little A Lot!

Submitted by dbostrom on Fri, 10/10/2008 - 08:50.
  • DJs

Bing Crosby was an early pioneer of pre-recording. He felt that avoiding live broadcasting gave him greater control over the content of his programs and greater leverage with his sponsors. It also worked wonders on his golf scores. "C'mon Live A Little" host Derrick Bostrom has always felt that what's good enough for Bingle is good enough for him. You never know -- sometimes Saturday afternoon at 3pm (Pacific Time) is the perfect time to cut the grass, run a few errands, or even grab the wife and take a trip out of town.

IT WAS A GRAVEYARD SMASH

Submitted by DJpyro on Fri, 10/10/2008 - 00:00.

 Oct 10 1962

The British Broadcasting Company bans "Monster Mash" -- the Halloween-themed novelty tune by Bobby "Boris" Pickett -- for being "offensive." The BBC never specifies precisely what it is about the song that's problematic.
If only these were the problems we were facing today!

Another Super Saturday on "C'mon Live A Little!"

Here at Bostworld Headquarters, we look forward to Saturday as we do no other day of the week. If we didn't know better, we'd think it was Friday, we love it so much.  In fact, we can't wait for you to get Internet radio in your car, so we can provide drive-time programming for those unfortunates for whom Saturday might as well be Friday.

From the LuxuriaMusic Archives - BACKBEAT: Earl Palmer's Story

Submitted by ChuckKelley on Tue, 09/23/2008 - 07:02.
Session Drummer Earl Palmer passed away on Friday at the the age of 84. Culled from the LuxuriaMusic archives, this is Guy Benoit's review of Mr. Palmer's autobiography, "Backbeat -  Earl Palmer's Story," that we first published back in 2000.
You have heard Earl Palmer

You have heard Earl Palmer.

You've heard Earl Palmer even if you've never heard of Earl Palmer. One of the most imitated musicians of the 20th Century, Palmer is a drummer of astonishing ability.

The Gong Show

Submitted by traderbeck on Mon, 09/15/2008 - 15:26.

VISUALIZE JAYE P. MORGAN HERE. Thanks, everyone, who stopped by to listen during my Sid & Marty Krofft Show. Everyone seemed to enjoy the Kaptain Kool & the Kongs Gong Show segment and so did I. How it worked: I played the CD in its entirety. If three people in the chatroom typed "GONG!" the song was cut off and we went to the next one, no questions asked. Considering this was a Kaptain Kool LP, I think it was nothing short of a miracle that we made it through something like 38.7% of the tunes. That group sucks! Anyway, I will be keeping The Gong Show as a semi-regular segment on Bubblegum & Other Delights (every Friday at 7). My hope is that we can get on Stickam and use pots and pans as visual gongs.

Sunshine Second Anniversary Today @ 4PM (PDT) on Luxuria!

Yes, it is Monday once again and I bring you news of the newest edition of my Internet radio program, "Come To The Sunshine," episode #48.

Today's show is very special for me because it marks the two year mark of when I started this unlikely venture. I never thought I would come so far with this thing and how much it would come to mean to me. Over the last two years, I've spun nearly 2000 songs by more than 500 different artists, mostly from vinyl, mostly in mono and mostly to the detriment of all my free time! Nevertheless, I have been a very proud presenter of this, the music that means so very much to me. A big thank you to everyone who has taken the time to listen and help over these 50 some concept shows - I truly appreciate you being there to share.

Sometimes we've gotta wonder about "C'mon Live A Little" host Derrick Bostrom: is he lazy, stupid or just inconsiderate?
