This week on "C'mon Live A Little," host Derrick Bostrom salutes the fruition a dream long held by so many of us: the rerelease of "Love Got In My Way" by Joe E.
Produced in 1974 but never actually receiving a general release before Joe's record company folded and vanished without a trace, promo copies of "Love Got In My Way" have been treasured by thrift store miners and and collectors of obscure vanity music ever since. Finally, the good folks at Eabla Records are making this fabulous slab, which they call "a poor man's Elvis taking aim at a Pet Sounds for the middle-aged melancholic," available to the general public.
Complete with rare photos and extensive liner notes, '"Love Got In My Way" has been lovingly reissued for the first time on compact disc from the original master tapes, which south Florida construction worker, part-time stock car racer and aspiring crooner Joe E. Neubauer rescued from the garbage over 30 years ago. On that fateful day, Joe paid a visit to his record company, the virtually non-existent SSR International, to discover that the label had fled under cover of the night, leaving only a vacant office and a dumpster full of Joe's dreams of stardom.
