Switched On Audrey

Switched On Audrey - Pretty World - Sundays 2 - 4 PM PST

Switched On Audrey starting record collecting at age 8 when she received her first LP, The Beatles 1962-1966, which was given to her by her aunt. Ten years later she met Bomp Records' garage guru Greg Shaw and became fixated on '60s punk, British R&B, and psychedelic music. Soon after, she began spinning at the "Rave Up!" and then "Cavern Club" in Hollywood. It was there she met Domenic Priore and co-produced/wrote/and starred in It's Happening!, a '60s-styled go-go show in the style of Shindig and Ready Steady Go!  After the show’s six-year run, she moved to Europe where she became the resident DJ of the UP Club! in Frankfurt.

While in Rome, she helped organize the Danger!Diabolik,’ which featured a display of her sizeable Diabolik movie-poster collection.  Audrey doesn't stop at collecting records and memorabilia; she has a huge vintage clothing collection focusing on designer Rudi Gernreich, whom she hopes to open a museum for one day. After returning to California, she began producing another TV show, The Now Sound, featuring contemporary bands such as The Masonics, Peter, Bjorn, and John and The Soundtrack of Our Lives. Among Audrey’s most favorite things to do is DJ, but by far the most exciting was when director Roman Coppola asked her to spin at the premiere of his movie CQ at the Egyptian Theatre in Hollywood.

At Luxuria she hosts Pretty World, a Brazilian-based musical tour that mixes up the best Bossa Nova, Samba, Tropicalia, Jazz and other Latin delicacies—including any version of  “Summertime” she can find.

Switched On Audrey

  • Philosophy of my radio show: To expose my listeners to beautiful Bossa Nova's, soothing Samba's, lightly Latin Jazz from the '60s, as well as contemporary Easy Listening Electronica and Nu Jazz Bossa artists containing a "Pretty World" vibe.
  • Five artists LuxuriaMusic listeners will hear on my show: Luiz Henrique, Marcos Valle, Nicola Conte, Gal Costa, and of course, Sergio Mendes.
  • To derive maximum pleasure from my radio show: If you are not living by a beach, then get a box, fill it with sand, insert feet while sipping a Caipirinha and caressing yourself with Coppertone tanning lotion. Sit in front of a fan, visualize being at Ipanema  and saying "Ahhh!"
  • When I'm not DJ’ing I can be found:  Driving around in my convertible with dogs in tow, looking for even more records to spin or a fabulous Rudi Gernreich to wear.
  • Secret superpowers I possess: My “coolness” radar, which is able to detect any thing worth buying at a garage sale or thrift store before I even get out of the car!
