Feel like you’re caught in one of those dreams where the murderer is chasing you with a big, sharp knife but when you go to scream no sound come out of your mouth? Only this particular “dream” has lasted for nearly six years? Vote Tuesday, even if you don’t think it will do any damn good and are pretty certain that Diebold machines are conspiring against you. Go to www.moveon.org and register for a Call for Change party this weekend and badger equally jaded people to the polls. It may give you some peace of mind. Plus, when your expectations are low, it’s not hard to exceed them...

This Friday's Show

Submitted by traderbeck on Tue, 11/07/2006 - 13:27.

No theme has screamed out at me yet for this Friday's BG&OD (7-9 pm), and I am open to suggestions. Otherwise, I plan to play the usual bubblegum this week along with what I have long considered non-existent: A truly horrid cover of the song "Windy."

Well, not to be pushy, but a show about TIGER BEAT HEART-THROBS would be good for at least twenty minutes....

or "bubblegum summer" with songs about well, summer...

Can't think of anything else at the moment but it's Wednesday: when one's ass is beat from the first part of the week and knows there's still the other half of the week to get through!

Thanx, Neko! I may go with your heartthrobs idea -- I have a Rex Smith LP I've been dying to play. Also, I have been thinking of doing a sunshine show, but figured I'd wait till it was in the dead of winter. PS: I also just got a record by that little boy who was on the last season of the Partridge Family, Ricky Segall! He's very cute, so I can work him in somehow.

Neko’s Easy-As-Pie Pumpkin Pie Recipe (Yes, even YOU can make it!)
Takes about 5-10 minutes!

You can either purchase a premade crust for $1 or make one yourself:

--about 1 cup crushed graham crackers
--1/2 stick butter, melted
--pinches salt & sugar

Combine ingredients in pie pan and blend with fork until well mixed, then shape to sides of pan (or open up premade crust).

Filling: One package of Pumpkin Spice Jell-O Pudding Mix, 1 3/4 cups milk, prepare according to package

Fill piecrust with pudding and chill for about an hour

Top with whipped cream

Disgusting recipes that will ensure you are NEVER asked to contribute food to a holiday gathering again...
TicTac Pie
1 graham cracker pie crust 2 8-ounce packages of cream cheese - softened
2 eggs 3/4 cup sugar
2 teaspoons vanilla 1/2 teaspoon grated lemon peel
4 boxes of orange TicTac™ candies
Preheat oven to 350. Beat cream cheese slightly. Add eggs, sugar, vanilla, and lemon peel. Beat the mixture until it is light and fluffy. Add TicTac™ candies and mix lightly. Pour into crust. Bake until firm, about 25 minutes. Sprinkle TicTac™ candies over the pie and allow it to cool. Refrigerate at least 8 hours.

Turd Cookies (source: www.petebevin.com/archives/2004/10/24/turd_cookies.html)
3 cups flour 1 cup sugar
1 tsp ground cinnamon 1 tsp freshly ground pepper
1/2 tsp ground cloves 1/4 tsp salt
1/2 cup cocoa powder (unsweetened)
3 tsp baking powder 1/2 cup unsalted butter, chilled and sliced
3 extra large eggs 1/2 cup milk
1 tsp vanilla extract
Mix all the dry ingredients together and mix well. Cut in the butter slices to get a coarse grain.
Beat together the eggs, milk and vanilla. Add to the flour/butter mixture and stir to make a soft dough. Knead just until the dry ingredients are moistened.
Make turds. If you got the dough right, you’ll find it shapes itself into just the right consistency; you don’t have to work at it too much. You can either make sausage shapes out of them, or with longer rolls, coil them up. Bake for 8-10 minutes at 350F.

GLAZE 1 cup icing sugar 1 /4 tsp ground cinnamon
1/4 tsp vanilla extract About 1 tsp table cream
After cooking, stir all the glaze ingredients together and dip the turds in them. Serve nonchalantly, and be sure to spread a rumour that one of them is real.

Oh, man, I'm so sorry I missed this show on Friday! It sounds great. I particularly like the Philly connections in the "Easy as Pie" set -- can't imagine what a track by Jerry Blavat, the Geator with the Heater, sounds like. Did you know he's still on the air, Becky? On an oldies program in Philly on WXPN. Here's a link to his 'XPN page: http://xpn.org/geator.php

Submitted by traderbeck on Thu, 11/23/2006 - 11:14.

As you recover from your Thanksgiving booze/tryptophan/inlaws hangover on Friday, please tune in for an afternoon and evening of Luxuria madness. All info is below. DJs and good friends of Luxuria are invited to swing by (Note: If you know the location of the studio, you are most likely a "friend of Luxuria"). Listeners: Please send us your song requests and clear out the furniture so you can dance along at home! Becky

Domenic (Volcanic Action), Kari (K.A.O.S. a GoGo) and I (Becky, Bubblegum & Other Delights) will be combining our shows into one non-stop dance party involving drinks, snacks, fun, etc. The Millionaire and Sascha are in town and will be dropping by, and everyone is encouraged to bring a handful of records to spin a mini-set (and cross-promote your show on ours) and/or man the chat room for a bit. The vibe: Kiddie a Go Go meets Playboy After Dark. Please tell your fans/listeners to tune in!

Who: Luxuriamusic.com
What: Luxuria Non-Stop Dance Party!
Where: The Silverlake studio
When: Friday, Nov. 24, 3 to 9 pm PST. Stop in anytime
Bring: Thanksgiving leftovers, 45s, ½-filled containers of booze (be sure to put in your trunk), your best dance moves
