Tenth anniversary program!
When I started my radio show, Come To The Sunshine, ten weeks ago I had two goals in mind. One was to not to completely embarrass myself (which I've managed to achieve, depending on what your definition of the word completely is). The second was to make ten full two hour programs. On Monday, November 13th I plan to reach my second aim. From 4 to 6pm (PST) I will be going out live with my tenth episode of Come To The Sunshine!
The program lifts the lid on my personal collection of '60s Nuggets, featuring forgotten singles, neglected albums and buried treasures. This week we have all three.
Here's what's planned for show #10:
A set of UNI label singles by Marcia Strassman, Sundae Funnies, The Rainy Daze, The Visions and The Great Love Trip.
Some rockin' raga rock, psych and garage from Chris & Craig, Children, Herman's Hermits and the Humane Society.
Gems from the Columbia label by Dearly Beloved, Simon & Garfunkel, Webster's New Word, The Peanut Butter Conspiracy and The Plebeian Rebellion.
Plus some top drawer pop from The Young Idea, The Reasonable Facsimile, The Clevedonaires and Sasha Caro
In our album spotlight will be Gary Lewis & The Playboys' amazing "New Directions" long player from 1967.
The show will be capped off by a half hour of music from Denny Laine & The Electric String Band! As some of you may know, Denny Laine (former lead singer of the Moody Blues) issued two wonderful Deram singles in 1967 ("Say You Don't Mind" and "Catherine's Wheel"). Since neither made the charts, nothing else was ever heard from Laine and this visionary outfit (which combined rock with strings ala the Left Banke and Honeybus - all well before ELO). Some forty years on, we will be sampling unissued delights by Denny and his mates from October 1967.
I hope you can join me this week (or some Monday soon).

Andrew Sandoval
